Time for a Perfect Picnic

Picnic basket

The sun is out, the strawberries are ripe and Wimbledon is fast approaching which means only one thing, it’s time to enjoy a picnic with friends and family. If you’re in London and looking for a new picnic location check out these recommended parks, gardens and secret spots across the city.

Parks for London has a great guide to green picnic habits with advice on choosing  reusables, limiting waste and using water refill stations, to reduce rubbish and keep the H2O flowing.

We think that half the fun is planning and preparing your picnic recipes and treats so this week we’re sharing a host of Cookery School recipes, just perfect for an alfresco gathering.

Picnic Recipes

First up we suggest our granary bread recipe, that you can make into either rolls or a loaf. This will accompany everything from your hummus and courgette salad to your pates – we love our mushroom pate and you can substitute the cream cheese for silken tofu if you want a vegan dish.

Our favourite Cornish pasties, a classic British delicacy, are very transportable and loved by everyone of all ages. Add some Spanish flavour to your repertoire with a tortilla that can be eaten warm or cold. Our red cabbage coleslaw made from red cabbage, red onion, carrots, red apples and celery is a great companion to these dishes.

For dessert we’ve got a classic chocolate brownie recipe that can’t fail to please everyone and a delicious recipe for citrus cupcakes.

Lastly, don’t forget the obligatory crudites (sliced carrot, cucumber, pepper, celery, baby tomatoes and radishes for nibbling on and dipping, alongside cheese chunks for the little ones (and the big ones ; )) and dehulled strawberries, which are perfectly ripe and sweet – Riverford do a delicious organic punnet!
